A Smart Solution To Maximize Living Space While Being Mindful Of Budget

When a Leduc couple found their kitchen overwhelmed during family gatherings and their living room sitting unused, they knew it was time for change. With newer oak cabinets they wanted to keep and a desire to host large family dinners more comfortably, they needed a creative solution to brighten and optimize their main floor living spaces without starting from scratch.

Kitchen Design & Renovation

The kitchen consisted of oak cabinets and darker tones. When family came over for suppers everyone gathered around the small island which made it difficult to cook. The cabinet doors were fairly new and they didn’t want to have to replace them.

Living Room

The living room, complete with brick fireplace, was largely unused.

Background

Our clients contacted us as they needed design assistance with 3 parts of their home: the kitchen, living room, and dining area. This couple wanted to update and brighten the kitchen. They also have a lot of family and host large dinners.

Some parts of the main floor were unused and some crowded when they had lots of people over. The idea was to create more space and function in the kitchen and dining areas for guest to hangout.

Main Floor Renovation - Wish List Comes True

To refresh the rest of the main floor several upgrades were made to:

  • Walls: All of the main floor walls were painted a lighter colour to keep the warmth throughout. A wallpaper feature wall was added to the dining room. The natural grass cloth adds some glam with it’s subtle shimmer.

  • Lighting: All of the lighting fixtures were changed to match and bring a cohesive feel to the space. Some pot lights were moved to match the new kitchen layout.

  • Blinds: Existing blinds were replaced in a color consistent with the warm / light tones of the main floor.

  • Flooring: The original flooring was a golden tone hardwood. To add some contrast we suggested changing out the flooring. Our clients had not considered this but with our assistance ended up choosing this ‘wood grain’ porcelain flooring which is just stunning! Upgrading the flooring really helped for the entire space to feel fresh.
