Project Description
Main Floor Condo | Edmonton
Background
Enjoying retirement but not enjoying the main floor living space. Our client wanted to transform the boxy closed off main floor into an open-concept marvel.
Areas to be renovated include kitchen, dining room, living room, stairway up to second level, stairs down to front and garage entries.
Issues to be addressed:
Condo was 20 years old and needed an update. The client wanted the update for a potential resale in a few years and to enjoy in the meantime.
Make the space more functional
Include more storage
View of outside while seated at an island
Enough seating for company
Open-concept space
More electrical outlets in the kitchen
Replace existing flooring
Better lighting throughout
Renovation Solutions
Removed the wall separating the living room from the kitchen and dining areas to create an open look and feel.
Removed all the carpet and installed updated laminate flooring.
Added cabinetry to give the client a long island for more storage and enough seating space for regular guests. Ensuring a great view out the windows!
Selected simple pattered white quartz counter-tops and white kitchen cabinets with flat door style to give a modern look to coordinate with mid-century modern furnishings.
Selected brushed nickel cabinet hardware and faucets for sparkle, and stainless appliances to update.
Chose a light, glassy grey-beige back-splash tile to warm up the cool metals and tie in the wood flooring.
Improved lighting throughout kitchen by adding pot-lights, under cabinet lighting and pendant lighting.
Challenges
The flooring was delayed by the manufacturer for 4 weeks. We contacted the client giving them the choice of waiting or choosing a different product. The client opted to wait as it was the perfect product for the home. Using a temporary kitchen for the extended time the client made the sacrifice for the flooring product she loved.
