Project Description
Main Floor and Exterior Renovation | Sherwood Park
Background
Our homeowners were often out of the country for work but were starting to think about retirement. They were going to keep this house long term. While the house had great windows and a beautiful view out the back the interior needed some attention. For someone who loved to cook the kitchen didn’t offer enough “cooking” space and the closed off layout didn’t lend itself to large gatherings they liked to host. The stairs to the basement seemed to be in the middle of things contributing to the choppy feel and the front entryway was more of a hallway.
Main Floor - Wish List
A large Chef’s kitchen with lots of storage and work space
Open main floor living perfect for hosting big family events - an entertainers dream
Dedicated bright office space that wasn’t just a spare bedroom
Updated and modern finishes - including a sleek fireplace
Just one front door and an updated exterior
Issues to be addressed:
Kitchen - The kitchen was closed off from the rest of the main floor. The main living areas were a series of rooms making it feel choppy and not great for hosting large groups. Our homeowners love to cook and kitchen while functional didn’t serve this chef.
Front Entry Way and Main Floor Layout - When you first walked into the home the entry was a long hallway down to the kitchen/ mudroom area. The main floor living was a series of rooms and lots of doorways leading from one space to the next.
Exterior - With two front entrance doors it could be confusing at times which one to use. The exterior of the home was original to the house and lacked curb appeal and presence.
